Overview
HASTELLOY Alloy S is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy containing Ni bal, Cr 16, Mo 15, and minor additions of La and B, specifically designed for high-temperature service up to 1200°C (2192°F). The rare earth lanthanum (La) addition provides exceptional oxidation resistance through the formation of a stable, adherent oxide scale, while the boron addition enhances creep resistance and high-temperature strength. The alloy is widely used in aerospace, gas turbine, and industrial heating applications where superior thermal stability and oxidation resistance are required.
Description (English)
HASTELLOY Alloy S is supplied in the sheet solution heat-treated condition, delivering yield strength of 496 MPa, tensile strength of 890 MPa, elongation of 51%, and hardness of HRB 93. The alloy is manufactured to multiple AMS aerospace standards covering bars and forgings (AMS 5711), sheet/plate/strip (AMS 5873), and wire (AMS 5838). The high tensile strength (890 MPa) combined with good ductility (51%) and exceptional oxidation resistance makes the alloy ideal for the most demanding high-temperature structural applications. HASTELLOY S is widely used in gas turbine combustion components, industrial furnace parts, and aerospace high-temperature hardware.
