Overview
2017A-T451 is a European designation (EN AW-2017A) heat-treatable aluminum-copper alloy (2xxx series) supplied in the T451 temper. The T451 temper indicates the material has been solution heat-treated, stress-relieved by controlled stretching (permanent set 1.5–3%), and then naturally aged to a substantially stable condition.
Description (English)
2017A-T451 aluminum alloy offers a balanced combination of high static strength, excellent machinability, good fatigue performance, and adequate corrosion resistance when properly protected. The T451 temper (solution heat-treated + stress-relieved by stretching + naturally aged) provides improved dimensional stability during and after machining, making it particularly suitable for thick plate, bar, and forged parts used in aerospace structural applications, mechanical assemblies, and precision machined components. The alloy is weldable only by specialized techniques (friction or flash welding) and is typically protected by alodine or anodizing for corrosion resistance.
